Message from the Parent Council

Dear Parents and Carers

SCIENNES SCIENCE FAIR

We're getting fantastic feedback about Saturday's Summer Science Fair THANK YOU to everyone who attended, helped at and supported the event. We are indebted to all our contributors many of whom were Sciennes parents, and especially the University of Edinburgh - for providing fun, accessible Science Activities for the children (and for parents/ carers !).

Please have a look at the photos and the school's report on the Sciennes School website:

There is also a photo montage of the event which you can see at:

The Science Fair was FREE as a thank you from the Parent Council and Friends of Sciennes School Trust for the effort and hard work that the school community have put into raising money this year. Despite that, incredibly, the amount raised from the stalls, food and raffle is in excess of £7,000 - a record breaking total.

PLAYGROUND FUNDRAISING
We'll be reporting back the week beginning 12th June as regards the playground fundraising total. It is clear that, as a school community, we have either met the £55,000 fundraising target or that we're very, very close. Our finance team is doing a thorough comb through of all this year's figures, expenditure and spending commitments so that the final announcement is fully accurate.

SWIMATHON ANY FINAL SPONSORSHIP MONEY?
We'll be doing final calls this week for Swimathon donations which continue to come in every day - the total for this pupil fundraising event is now over £12,000. Well done pupils on this extraordinary effort!

WHAT ELSE HAS BEEN FUNDED BY THE PARENT COUNCIL / FSS THIS YEAR?
In addition to funding the forthcoming playground developments, the Parent Council and Friends of Sciennes School Trust has also funded pupil cycling, swimming, a music event, eco activity, the pupil water cooler and school clubs and residential subsidies.

PARENT COUNCIL AGM

All parents and carers are warmly invited to attend this year's Parent Council AGM which is taking place at the school on Thurs 18th June, 7pm. It's been quite a year please come along to hear reports, ask questions and if you would like stand for one of the elected roles. Please look out for AGM invite and information which will go out in school bags this week. After the AGM please join us at Summerhall for a celebration!!

Best wishes,
Claire Wheeler
Parent Council Chair
